Now UPI payments facility can be availed by International Travellers

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had declared in the Proclamation on Developmental and Regulatory Policies dated February 08, 2023, an office to empower all inbound travellers visiting India to make payments using UPI (Unified Payments Interface while they are in India. Traveller can avail this facility from today.

At initial stage, it is accessible to traveller from G-20 nations, at select International airports (Bengaluru, Mumbai and New Delhi). Traveller would be issued Prepaid Payment Instruments (PPI) wallets linked to UPI for making payments at Merchants outlets . Initially, ICICI Bank, IDFC First Bank and two non-bank PPI issuers, Pine Labs Private Limited and Transcorp International Limited will Issue UPI-linked wallets.

Travellers visiting India can now enjoy the experience of UPI payments at over five crore merchants outlets across India, that accept QR Code-based UPI Payments.
